GROWERS' MARKET AGREEMENT
Proposed Action
Staff recommends the following motion: Approve the 2014 Growers' Market agreement.
Adoption of this motion will allow the Growers' Association to operate the 2014 Growers'
Market on the portion of Lot #300 from the south side extending two spaces north of the
snow emergency sign, according to the schedule laid out in the agreement.
Overview
The Growers' Market is in its 28th year of operation. The Growers' Association has utilized
Lot #300 on an annual basis for conducting its Growers' Market. The north side of Lot #300
will remain open for public parking.
The growers wish to continue to utilize the same location as last year with the addition of two
parking spaces to the north, the full width of the lot. The Growers' Market will operate only
on Saturday mornings, as it did last year. It is anticipated that 39 growers will participate if
the expansion is granted. The dates of the market are June 14 through October 25, with the
exception of July 12. Staff has informed the Growers' Association of the Raspberry
Festival's use of Lot #300 on the excepted date.
Primary Issues to Consider
• Are there any outstanding issues that resulted from last year's operation?
The staff is unaware of any major conflicts or problems that resulted from the operation of
the Growers' Market last year.
• Why does the market want to expand?
The market had approximately 31 booths last year, and this year they are expecting
approximately 39 if the expansion is granted. The abutting businesses were notified of the
expansion in Lot 300. Staff received two calls regarding the expansion; both were against
the expansion of the market because they felt there was a lack of parking. The north side of
Lot #300 will remain open for public parking.
