V.2. Approve Revised Final Design Plans and Authorize Bidding: Cottageville Park, Phase 1 Improvements; Stadler
November 25, 2014 'L10 P K ¢ N S Council Report 2014-136 APPROVE REVISED FINAL DESIGN PLANS AND AUTHORIZE BIDDING: COTTAGEVILLE PARK, PHASE I IMPROVEMENTS Staff recommends the following motion: Move that Council approve the final revised design plans and authorize bidding of the Cottageville Park, Phase I I.m.p.rovement proiect. This project was originally bid in July 2014. Two bids were received and rejected as they were more than 35% above the engineer's estimate of cost. Since then, the consultants have been refining the design and the construction estimate. By adjusting design elements and specifications we estimate more than $180,000 in cost savings. Plus, an additional $44,000 in additional savings is possible via four alternate bid items, However, additional areas were added to the original scope, as well, including the park alley improvements and grading/landscaping of a future park shelter area. Additionally, unit prices were adjusted upward to better reflect the current bidding climate. As a result, the new construction cost estimate is $1,992,219 — not including the potential alternate bid reductions. The project redesign is now essentially complete and City Council approval is needed prior to the December 11 Minnehaha Creek Watershed District Board meeting where they will consider design approval and whether or not to advance the project to public bidding.
