-cm City of Hopkins April 7, 2015 Council Report 2015-044 ACCEPT BIDS AND AWARD OF CONTRACT 2015 MUNICIPAL PARKING LOT IMPROVEMENTS CITY PROJECT 2014-17 Proposed Action Staff recommends the following motion: adopt Resolution 2015-033 accepting bid; and Resolution 2015-034 awarding the contract, 2015 Municipal Parking Lot Improvements, City Project 2014-17 Overview The bid opening for the 2015 Municipal Parking Lot Improvements was held on March 24, 2015. This project involves rehabilitation of Municipal Lot 300, City Hall parking lot, Central Park parking lot and trail, Pavilion parking lot, the Hennepin County Regional Railroad Authority (HCRRA) alley between 7h and 8h Avenues, Clocktower Plaza, and miscellaneous sidewalk and alley repairs. The low bid received was $1,022,662.85, which is $161,501.65 less than the final engineer's estimate. Four (4) bids were opened; the low bidder is S.M. Hentges and Sons, Inc. from Jordan, MN. This contractor has a good reputation with previous similar projects in the metro area and also recently was awarded the contract for the 2015 Mainstreet Improvements. Staff is recommending award of the project contract to S.M. Hentges and Sons, Inc. Project costs: Based on the low bid, overhead costs (engineering, admin, legal), and a 5% construction contingency the total estimated project cost is $1,273,848. There are no assessments for any of this construction; all costs will be covered by PIR funding. SM Hentges is a reputable contractor with previous experience on projects of this nature and will conveniently be working in Hopkins on the Mainstreet project this summer.
