This action will continue the process of considering a new cable franchise for the City of Hopkins. Overview The City has received a proposal for a new cable franchise from Century Link. State law requires a public hearing be held to allow for an opportunity for comment on the proposals. The City Council cannot award a franchise at this meeting. By state law the Council must wait at least seven days after the public hearing to award a franchise. The Southwest Suburban Cable Commission and its attorney will also be reviewing the proposals. A Commission meeting has been scheduled for April 22. Attached are the Council's copies of the franchise application. An analysis of these applications and a comparison to Comcast's franchise will be provided in the future.
