III.3. Live Saving Award; Specken Memorandum Mayor Maxwell and City Council To: Mike Mornson CC: Dale Specken – Fire Chief From: 6/30/2015 Date: Live Saving Award Re: th On Tuesday July 7 2015 The Hopkins Police and Fire Department will be presenting a Live Saving Award to Peter Hoverstien. On 06/14/2015 at 1451 hours, Officer Mark Kyllo, Sergeant Darin Hill, PSO Hartifie and Hopkins Fire Units were dispatched to an unconscious male not breathing at 9451 Excelsior Blvd. Additional information was that CPR was being performed on a patient. Upon arrival, we observed a male patient laying on the pavement, AED pads attached to his bare chest and a citizen, later identified as PATRICK HOVERSTEN, conducting CPR on patient Keith Olive. We learned Mr, Hoversten had shocked the patient once prior our arrival with the AED. Police and Fire Personnel took over care of the patient feeling for a carotid pulse finding none. At this moment, the AED was instructing us to deliver another shock to the patient. Police, Fire and Hennepin County Ambulance continued to administer care and the party was transported to Methodist. Mr. Hoverstien after starting CPR asked someone to go into the Depot and get and AED at which time he placed it on Mr. Olive. Mr. Hoverstien’s quick action said Mr Olive’s life. We will be presenting Mr. Hoverstien with a plaque at the meeting. 1
