Wf�RE,AS, praperty t�-Lx�es tend to be highest and most burdensome in
cities, and in the absence of so�ne action by the State Legislature
mn�icipal prc�perty taxes in the Gity of Hopkins will increase in 1976
and 1977, and
WI�RE,AS, the City Qouncil of the City of Hopkins strongly favors
the reduction of municipal property taxes, and the most feasible way
of accanplishing this without drastically reducing essential mtmicipal
services is through the distributi� of railroa.d and t�elephone gross
earnings taxes to cities as proposed by Governor Andersoaz, and
WI�RF,A�S, this method of tax reduction is preferable to other
alternatives being considered.
N(7W Tf��RE BE IT RESOLVED THAT TI� CITY OOUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF I-iOPKINS, N�VNF'SdI'A, respectfully urc�es the Minnesota Sta� Legislature
to distribute all of the telephone and railroad grass earnings taxes,
amounting to $46 million in 1976 and $49 millian in 1977, to local units
of goven�nt as proposed by Cov�rnor Anderson, and
SE IT FU1�iER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution be transmitted
to the Covernor of the State of Minnesota., Members of the Sta.te Legislature
and the I�ague of Minnesota Mt,micipalities.
Passed and aclopted by the Cbtmcil of the City of Hopkins, Minnesota,
at a regular meeting held on Tuesday, April 15, 1975.
