Appointment of Mayor Pro Tempore for 2016
Staff recommends approval of the following motion: Move to appoint Council Member
Halverson as the Mayor Pro Tempore for 2016.
Overview
Minnesota State Statute section 412.121 and Hopkins City Charter section 2.06 states that at the
first meeting of each year the City Council shall choose a Mayor Pro Tempore. The Mayor Pro
Tempore shall serve as the presiding officer and Acting Mayor of the Council in the absence of
the Mayor.
Primary Issues to Consider
Who should serve as the Mayor Pro Tempore
Traditionally the Council Member who has served the longest is chosen.
Alternatives
Appoint Council Member Halverson as Mayor Pro Tempore; or
Appoint another Council Member as Mayor Pro Tempore.
Staff recommends alternative one, appoint Council Member Halverson as Mayor Pro Tempore
for 2016.
