MEMORANDUM
TO:
Mayor and City Councilmembers
Mike Mornson, City Manager
FROM:
Meg Beekman, Community Development Coordinator
DATE:
May 10, 2016
SUBJECT: HBCA Update
Background
The Hopkins Business and Civic Association has undergone a substantial amount of changes
over the last few years. These changes have included several new board members, hiring a part-
time coordinator, and appointing new leadership. In April the HBCA board met at a retreat to
identify key goals with both short and long term tasks to be completed this year. By all accounts
the retreat was a success and the HBCA board has emerged with a renewed excitement about
what is possible.
Amy Saldanha, owner of Kiddywampus, was appointed the new HBCA Board President, and as
part of that role she envisions forging improved partnerships with both the City and area civic
organizations to improve communication, leverage resources, and benefit HBCA members. The
HBCA board has requested to meet with the City Council to provide an update on their 2016
work plan, hear how they can better partner with the City to align goals and outcomes, and share
their thoughts for the opportunities they see for HBCA and the City.
No Council action is required at this time.
