JOINT MEETING WITH HOPKINS SCHOOL BOARD
MAY 17, 2016
CALL TO ORDER
Pursuant to due call and notice thereof a Joint Meeting of the Hopkins City Council and Hopkins
School Board was held on Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at 5:00 p.m. at Hopkins City Hall in the
Police Department Training Room, 1010 1st Street South, Hopkins.
INTRODUCTIONS
Attendees present from the City included Mayor Cummings, City Council Members Campbell,
Gadd, and Halverson; City Manager Mornson; City Clerk Domeier, Chief of Police Reynolds,
Assistant City Manager Lenz, Director of Planning and Economic Development Elverum, Police
Services Liaison Buck and Community Outreach Liaison Ross. Attendees present from the
School District included School Board Chair Donovan, School Board Members Adams,
Newcomer, Goodroad, Kurus and Larson, Superintendent Schultz, Stanley Brown, Katie
Stennes, Katie William and Barb Westmoreland. Attendees from Gethsemane included John
Nelson, Arden Lovagnini Michele Lehmbecker, Donna Anderson and Sarah Moat. Consultant
Bill Wells was also in attendance.
HOPKINS CITY, SCHOOL AND LOCAL RACE EQUITY EFFORTS
Katie Williams, Police Chief Reynolds and Pastor Nelson provided background information on
the race equity efforts to date. Bill Wells provided a presentation on the initiative that covered
the following: why it’s important, who is impacted, what’s at stake, where we are today, and
what’s next and the future plan. Discussion was held about building the relationships and trust
within the community. Pastor Moat provided information about the summer schedule of equit y
events at Gethsemane. Community Outreach Liaison Ross talked about the planning for the
Celebration of Community to be held in August.
ADJOURNMENT
There being no further business, a Molly Cummings adjourned the meeting at 6:45 p.m.
