AT CONCLUSION OF THE REGULAR CITY COUNCIL MEETING
Tuesday, August 16, 2016
CALL TO ORDER
Mayor Cummings called the meeting to order at 8:38 p.m. Council Members and staff present at
meeting included the following:

x Council Member Campbell
The following updates were provided at the meeting:
City Council
• Council Member Campbell commented that the new Park Board Members would be going
on a tour of the Hopkins parks and that the new electronic poll books worked well at the
Primary.
• Council Member Campbell discussed resident comments received during National Night Out
events:
o Concern about a proposed 2017 alley reconstruction project
o A pedestrian bridge in Valley Park near Nine Mile Cove needs maintenance
o A stop sign at 4th Street N and 16th Ave is faded and needs replacement
• Council Member Campbell suggested an idea to recruit the retail gift store, Patina, for
Mainstreet.
• Council Member Gadd provided an update on the League of Minnesota Cities local policy
meeting that focused on transportation funding. There was discussion about SWLRT funding
and the possible Legislative Special Session.
• Council Member Gadd is unable to attend the Racial Equity meeting.
• Council Member Kuznia discussed Interlachen Neighborhood concerns regarding a
construction project located in neighboring St. Louis Park and maintenance of Excelsior
Blvd.
• Council Member Kuznia commented on the difficult sight lines due to the construction at the
intersection of 9th Avenue and Excelsior Blvd.
• Mayor Cummings interviewed the Park Board candidates and two residents have accepted
the positions and will be sworn in at the September 6th City Council meeting.
• Mayor Cummings discussed the City Manager employment review timetable.
• Mayor Cummings met with Augustana Care regarding designating Hopkins a Dementia
Friendly Community. Augustana will be applying for a grant and is looking for a letter of
support from the City and Fire Department.
• Mayor Cummings discussed the Emergency Operations Plan Tabletop, funding and need for
Council members to be certified.
• Mayor Cummings participated in the Corn Days parade to support County Commissioner Jan
Callison.
• Mayor Cummings gave an update on the Metro Cities meeting and the GARE Advancing
Racial Equity Speaker series.
Administration:
• City Manager Mornson discussed the executive summary review of race and equity.
• ResourceWest is updating their strategic plan and goals and will update the Council at a
future Work Session.
• City Manager Mornson updated the Council on the reorganization of staff positions.
• The Hennepin County Board tabled the Blake Road Cooperative Agreement.
• Staff met with the Hopkins Hockey Association regarding the Pavilion and will be meeting
again on September 6t .
• City Council Booth at the Hopkins Farmers Market is on Saturday, August 27.
ADJOURNMENT
There being no further business to come before the City Council and upon a motion by Kuznia,
seconded by Campbell, the meeting was unanimously adjourned at 9:13 p.m.
