III.1. Life Safety Awards; Specken (Memo) 1 Memorandum To: Mayor Cummings and City Council CC: Mike Mornson From: Dale Specken – Fire Chief Date: 9/27/2016 Re: Life Safety Awards On Tuesday, October 4 the Hopkins Police and Fire Department will be presenting a Life Saving Awards to Eric Wold and Ed Landry. On August 8, Police and Fire units were dispatched to 8th Avenue South and the regional trail. Officers Hamilton and Hegyi along with Sergeants White and Hill and Fire Department Personnel arrived to find Daniel Juster laying on the ground near the trail. Minnetonka Fire Fighter (Former Hopkins Firefighter) Eric Wold was performing CPR on Mr. Juster. Officer Hamilton placed an AED on Mr. Juster which administered multiple shocks. Fire units arrived and placed the Lucas device on Mr. Juster and administered an airway. Police and Fire Units assisted HCA Paramedics with patient care. Mr. Juster was transported to Methodist Hospital. It is the efforts of Firefighter Wold and Police and Fire personnel that Mr. Juster survived these medical issues. On Tuesday, August 9 at 16:04 hours, Police and Fire units were dispatched to Creekwood Apartments for a possible drowning. Upon arrival they found an 11-year-old female that had been pulled from the pool by Earl Landry and CPR had been started. Police and Fire personnel took over patient care by administering CPR and breathing for the patient. Hennepin County Ambulance took over patient care of the female patient. Fire Personnel assisted HCA medic with transport to the hospital. We are happy to announce that the patient was released from the hospital on August 19 with no medical problems. It is the actions of Earl Landry and the great work by both Police and Fire Personnel working together that we have positive outcomes for both of these incidents. September 27, 2016 2
