Programs
Dress A Dollie
Our Dress A Dollie program was recently recognized by the Hopkins School District. Our
Dress A Dollie volunteers and staff were honored at the Hopkins School District Volunteer
Recognition Event. They were called center stage and each given a certificate by the
school board. The Dress A Dollie program has been in existence since 1988. The
program consists of Hopkins School District Early Childhood and Kindergarten Teachers
bringing us the baby dolls from their classrooms at the end of every school year. The
volunteers bath, style hair, and sew a new outfit for each doll throughout the summer.
The teachers then pick up their dolls with a fresh new look before the school year
begins. The volunteers work on an average of 30 dolls each summer.
Volunteer Recognition
On May 30 and 31, Hopkins Activity Center had the opportunity to honored their 114
volunteers at Amy’s Cupcakes. Everyone who gathered there enjoyed a tasty
cupcake and beverage in honor of his or her contributions to the Activity Center over
the past year. The Hopkins Activity Center staff has found real joy in doing volunteer
recognition, as we not only want to honor our volunteers but to use the resources that
Hopkins offerings in its unique business establishments. We have worked with Hopkins
businesses in our volunteer recognition events. Last year we located at LTD Brewing Co.
serving root beer and snacks and playing games. We have also honored our
volunteers at the Hopkins Cinema with an Oscar theme while treating our volunteers to
popcorn, pop, and a movie. The Hopkins Center for the Arts has been a grand location
for our annual event in the year’s past as well. We already have planned our Hopkins
business location for next year. It is great to honor volunteers!
Projects
Gymnasium
We continue to work on renovations in the gymnasium. Public Works Buildings and
Maintenance is very close to finalizing plans for the upgrades of the ceiling lighting. The
Hopkins Activity Center staff continues to work on an affordable plan for the acoustical
panels in the gymnasium. Acoustical panels are needed to help absorb the harsh
sounds in the gymnasium, making a better hearing experience and ultimately a better
overall program experience for all participants.
Landscaping
One of the Activity Center’s newest groups, Men’s Shed, recently planted hosta
and spread mulch in our garden area just to the east of our front doors. The
area looks fantastic thanks to their efforts. We think we will give them this area
every year to enhance. The garden area makes our entrance inviting to our
guests.
