IV.4. Order Public Hearing -Wellhead Protection Plan Update; Stanley (CR2017-108) August 15, 2017 Council Report 2017-108
ORDER PUBLIC HEARING
WELLHEAD PROTECTION PLAN UPDATE
Proposed Action
Staff recommends the following motion: adopt Resolution 2017-057, Resolution Ordering Public Hearing
for Wellhead Protection Plan, Part 2.
Overview
Public water suppliers are required by the State of Minnesota to develop a Wellhead Protection Plan. The
purpose of the Wellhead Protection Program is to prevent contamination of public drinking water supplies
by identifying water supply recharge areas and implementing management practices for potential pollution
sources found within those areas. The City of Hopkins has an existing plan which is required to be updated.
As part of the update, a public hearing must be held before the City Council can approve the plan.
Staff recommends that Council order the date of the public hearing for Tuesday, September 5, 2017. The
City’s consultant, WSB & Associates, will be in attendance to provide a short summary of the plan updates
and remain present for questions.
