07-31-2017 Work Session after City Council MeetingMinutes of the July 31, 2017 City Council Work Session Following Regular Meeting Proceedings CALL TO ORDER Pursuant to due call and notice thereof a work session of the Hopkins City Council was held on Monday, July 31, 2017 at 7:45 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 1010 First Street South, Hopkins. Mayor Cummings called the meeting to order with Council Members Kuznia, Halverson, Gadd and Campbell attending. Staff present included City Manager Mornson. City Council: . Council Member Halverson discussed the leash law and commented that residents should call 911 regarding unleashed animals. Staff will follow up. . Council Member Gadd commented that there would be no Corridor Management Committee meeting in August. . Mayor Cummings discussed Council attendance at National Night Out events. Council Members would attend the 4 events that requested Council representation and then split up to attend as many events as possible. . Mayor Cummings met with the new Hopkins School District Superintendent and took her on a tour of the City of Hopkins. . Mayor Cummings and Police Chief Johnson visited Family Resources & Child Care Center. . The new Sun Sailor representative for Hopkins is Sabina Badola. . Council Member Campbell commented that one of the Council Chambers video monitors is out of order. Administration: City Manager Mornson provided the following updates: . Discussion of the Social Media Policy and public comments on the City of Hopkins Facebook page. Staff is working on an action plan. • Update on projects including the redesign of the City of Hopkins Website. • Hopkins Center for the Art has reduced the number of concerts and has had an increase in ticket sales. . Fire Department Engine #2 is for sale and has potentially been sold to another city. . City Planner Lindahl and Community Development Director Beekman will be scheduled speakers at upcoming conferences. . Community Development staff will be updating the Council at a future Work Session on the next steps in the affordable housing discussion.
