A City Coundl Work sessbn Was held on Tuesday. July 20.1999 in the Courd
Chambers after the regular City Council meeting.
The meeting was called to order by Mayor Redepenning at 9:40 p.m. All City Coundl
members were in attendance. as was City Manager Steve Mielke.
Raspberry Festival Parade
The flrgt item of discussbn was the Raspberry Festval parade. Comments by Coundl
members were oomplimerrtary toWar~d the parade and several units in the parade.
B ardlAlllant Tech Slts
Courd member Hesch asked how the Coundl and staff could avoid the type of
discussbn that was held at the Coundl mee~tlng regarding the Beard/Alliant Tech
project. City Manager Steve Mielke indicatied that he Would be speaking with the staff
do make sure the appropriate materials are prepared and provided to the CouncN, and
apologised for the inforrrratlon whk:h had not been included in the report. Additlonaliy,
he suggested that if the Courd no~tioes items are not fully cohered to the Couna'1's
desires, that a phone call prbr to the rrreetlng Would be helpfuul.
Appearance of Mr. Onenberg and Mr. Nolby
The neoct item was a discussion about the appearance of Mr. Greenberg and Mr. Ndby
at the Coundl meetlrrg. It was darifled that at the Work session. Coundl wanted to
receive intomnation from the City Attorney regarding our pdk~es and ordinances, and
that the Councq Would not mediate the issue. but kwbead, establish the dty's positlon as
to the issue.
Bentley Employment Issw
Coundl member J expressed her frustration over the settlement of the Bentley
employment issue. Mielloe indicated that he was also irustrerted. but recognt~ed that it
is common fior the League of Cltles to settle these types of suits when they feel that
settling is cheaper than defiending itself in court. He also stated that the League was
concerned about a jury trial and the unoertaintles that exit. despite the favorable facts
of the case.
Inspectlon of Arches
Coundl member Jensen asked about the Arches and whether inspec~torrs have been
per~omred. City Manager Mielke Indicated that he Would provide an update to the
Courd on that issue. Mayor Redepenning indicated that he had spoken with
individuals who felt that the Arches had cleaned up quite a bit.
Police Chief Earl Johnson R~ssignatlon
City Manager Steve Mielke announced that Pdice Chief Earl Johnson Would bave his
last day of service to the City on August 3.
There being no further items of discussbn the motion was made by Johnson, seconded
by Hesch do adjourn the meeting. The meeting was adjourned at 9:58 p.m.
