Sprinkler systems
The City wishes to encourage owners who do not have
sprinkling systems in their buildings to put a system in
while the construction is being done. The City is offering
a financial assistance program for Mainstreet property
owners to install their own fire protection system. Council
is considering amending the present program to make it more
attractive to the property owners.
Mr. Koppy explained to the Council that in order to have a
sprinkling system in a building it is necessary that you
have a 6" water main. The contractor on the project intends
to replace all antiquated water service lines with new
service lines. This is estimated to be 40 services. The
City will allow the 6" f ire sprinkler line to be used for
domestic purposes, eliminating the need for an additional 1"
domestic service line.
A report was given to the Council identifying options the
City Council may wish to consider
After discussion, the Council agreed that staff should come
back to them at the next Council meeting with the estimates
of installing sprinkler systems into specific buildings,
more information on the deferment issues (legal impacts,
etc.) , information as to where the funds will come from to
subsidize this work and options for subsidies based on time.
Mr. Redepenning moved and Mr. Kritzler seconded the motion
to adjourn. The meeting adjourned by unanimous consent.
