MINUTES OF THE CITY COUNCIL WORK SESSION
AT CONCLUSION OF THE REGULAR CITY COUNCIL MEETING
Tuesday, May 2, 2006
Mayor Maxwell called the meeting to order at 8:20 pm at the conclusion of the regular City Council
meeting at City Hall. Council members present were Mayor Maxwell and Council members Rowan,
Thompson, Halverson, and Youakim. City personnel present were City Manager Rick Getschow and
Public Works Director, Steve Stadler.
County Roads 73 and 5 Project
The Mayor stated that he had received positive comments regarding the Hopkins Crossroad and
Minnetonka Boulevard construction project. He asked for a status on the potential ceremony that would
occur sometime later in the year. Public Works Director Stadler stated that he was aware that we would be
holding some type of ceremony. He would like to see some of the work completed in that area in the next
month or two. Consensus was to hold a ceremony involving task force members and local officials in the
mid-day on a weekday afternoon.
Excelsior Boulevard Streetscape Improvements
Public Works Director Stadler updated the Council on the current status of the streetscape
improvements which have just begun.
Open Book Meeting
The City Manager updated the Council on the Open Book meeting that had occurred on Monday,
May 1. Five commercial properties attended the Open Book. The five commercial properties and thirteen
residential properties attended the Open Book according to the County Assessor. Council member
Halverson provided some information on one commercial property owner that had a concern. The City
Manager will follow up on the issue.
Heritage Festival
Council members asked about the date of the Heritage Festival. The City Manager stated that the
date should still be Saturday, May 20 to coincide with Mainstreet Days, but he will follow up on the exact
time of the event.
Distinguished Budget Award
City Manager Getschow stated that the City of Hopkins has been chosen as a recipient of the 2005
Distinguished Budget Document Award. It is an award that we are very proud of since approximately only
twenty cities in the entire state receive such an award. We will send a press release out regarding the award
to the newspaper.
Injured City Employee
Council members discussed how they had been contacted to meet with an injured employee. City
Manager Getschow stated that the media had also been in contact with him regarding the status of the
injured employee.
here being no further business, a motion was made by Halverson, seconded by Youakim to adjourn the
meeting. The motion passed unanimously. The meeting was adjourned at 9:12 pm.
