MINUTES OF THE CITY COUNCIL WORK SESSION
AT CONCLUSION OF THE REGULAR CITY COUNCIL MEETING
Tuesday, April 18, 2006
Mayor Maxwell called the meeting to order at 8:10 pm at the conclusion of the regular City Council
meeting at City Hall. Council members present were Mayor Maxwell and Council members Rowan,
Thompson, Halverson, and Youakim. City personnel present were City Manager Rick Getschow.
Blake School Property
Council member Rowan stated a concern with the cutting of brush that was occurring near the
streetcar tracks in the Harrison-Blake area. It is his understanding that the agreement that the City had with
Blake School was that property remain in a natural state and he is concerned that might not be occurring.
The City Manager will follow up with the Public Works Director.
City Code On-Line
Council member Rowan stated that there seemed to be Sections of the City Code that he was not
able to access on-line through the index.
Blake Road Corridor Meeting
Council discussed the Blake Road Corridor meeting and upcoming events such as a Take Back the
Park Event in May. The City has received a grant from SCIP to conduct recreational programming this
summer. A larger group is still meeting to discuss long term strategies going forward, which includes a
potential study by the Wilder Foundation to outline different initiatives and programs that can improve the
Blake Corridor area in several different areas.
Heritage Festival
City Manager Getschow discussed the activities of the Heritage Festival Committee as they plan for
the Heritage Festival event in late May. There are some current concerns with the funding of the event.
Joint Meeting with St. Louis Park City Council
City Manager Getschow stated he had talked with St. Louis Park and there are two potential dates
for a joint meeting in July. Monday, July 24 in St. Louis Park was the preferred date for a joint meeting.
City Manager Getschow will get in touch with St. Louis Park City Manager to schedule a date.
State of the City Address Historical Society
Mayor Maxwell and City Manager Getschow stated that they will be attending the Historical Society
Meeting this coming Sunday to talk about State of the City.
There being no further business, a motion was made by Thompson, seconded by Youakim to adjourn the
meeting. The motion passed unanimously. The meeting was adjourned at 8:35 pm.
