MINUTES OF THE CITY COUNCIL WORK SESSION
AT CONCLUSION OF THE REGULAR CITY COUNCIL MEETING
January 17, 2006
Mayor Maxwell called the meeting to order at 9:30 pm at the conclusion of the regular City Council
meeting at City Hall. Council members present were Mayor Maxwell and Council members Rowan, Halverson,
and Youakim. Council member Thompson was absent. City personnel present was City Manager Rick
Getschow.
20t" Avenue Townhomes
Council member Youakim discussed affordable housing options for the new development that would
follow potential demolition of the public housing townhomes on 20th Avenue. Council discussed the need for a
work session on this topic following word from HUD as to if the city will be able to pursue their project at all.
Hopkins Activity Center 25"' Anniversary
Council member Rowan asked if the other Council members had received the letter regarding Council
invitations to attend events related to the 25th anniversary of the Hopkins Activity Center.
The Surge Property
Council member Halverson.requested an update regarding the Surge property. City Manager Getschow
stated that the county is still working on turning that property over to the City to pursue our redevelopment of
single family homes. We hope this will occur in spring or summer of 2006. Council discussed hosting a
hborhood meeting prior to the redevelopment of this property .
Instant Run-Off Voting
Council discussed receiving further information on instant run-off voting (IRV), prior to the next work
session with the IRV task force.
There being no further business, a motion was made by Council member Halverson, seconded by
Youakim to adjourn the meeting. The motion passed unanimously. The meeting was adjourned at 9:58 pm.
