MINUTES OF THE CITY COUNCIL WORK SESSION
_ AT CONCLUSION OF THE REGULAR CITY COUNCIL MEETING
May 17, 2005
Mayor Maxwell called the meeting to order at 10:30 pm at the conclusion of the regulaz City Counci]
meeting at City Hall. Council members present were Mayor Maxwell and Council members Johnson,
Thompson, Brausen, and Rowan. City personnel present was City Manager Rick Getschow.
Southwest LRT Tour
Council member Rowan stated that he will be attending a tour of the Hiawatha Light Rail Line as
being a member ofthe Southwest LRT PAC (Policy Advisory Committee). He also discussed the open house
for the Southwest LRT that took place at the Depot Coffee House on May 11, 2005. Council also mentioned
the Hopkins study that will be started in the coming months.
NORC (Nurturing Our Retired Citizens)
Council member Thompson asked about the outcome of the meeting regazding NORC with Senator
Coleman. City Manager Getschow stated the meeting went well, in fact, Coleman submitted a request for
funding NORC in Hopkins and put it as one of his highest priorities.
Speed Control Lawn Signs
Council member Brausen stated that he received a request for the signs from a resident on Fifth
Avenue. Also, it was stated that there is time for signs to be placed in the Presidential Neighborhoods North,
because the street utility project is not starting immediately. City Manager Getschow stated he would talk to
Public Works Director Stadler about getting those signs out.
Service Dog Issue
Mayor Maxwell stated that he talked with a resident who had an animal and it was stated that the
animal may need to have requirements or papers for being a service dog. The person stated that due to ADA
(Americans With Disabilities Act) regulations he does not need to provide proof that he has a service dog.
City Manager stated that he would follow up.
City Attorney Services
City Manager Getschow stated that at the next work session the Council will talk about City Attorney
services. There will be input discussed from staff; Council can provide their input also. At a future work
session, not the May 24 work session, if the Council desires the City Attorney can be brought in for feedback
and discussion on services.
Fence at Mainstreet Oaks
City Manager Getschow stated that he, Planning and Economic Development Coordinator Jim
Kerrigan, and Public Works Director Steve Stadler will be meeting with the homeowner who had talked to
Council members tegazding the fence at the Mainstreet Oaks property.
Economic Development Tour
Getschow stated the City of Champlin will be coming through Hopkins as part of an Economic
Development Urban Village tour. Kersten Elvenun has arranged to meet with the Council Members and staff
of the City of Champlin to discuss the MazketPlace Loft development and the Summit development in
Hopkins as part of their tour.

May 24 Work Session
Getschow stated that the entire meeting will be held at the Hopkins Center for the Arts starting at 6
pm.
There being no further items, a motion was made by Council member Brausen, seconded by Council
member Johnson to adjourn the meeting. The motion passed unanimously. The meeting was adjourned at
10:42 pm.
