MINUTES OF THE CITY COUNCIL WORK SESSION
AT CONCLUSION OF THE REGULAR CITY COUNCIL MEETING
December 20, 2005
Mayor Maxwell called the meeting to order at 9:00 pm at the conclusion of the regular City Council
meeting at City Hall. Council members present were Mayor Maxwell and Council members Thompson, Brausen,
and Rowan. City personnel present were City Manager Rick Getschow. Also present were I{risti Halverson and
Cheryl Youakim, newly elected officials who will take office in January, and Public Works Director, Steve
Stadler.
2006 Street and Utility Improvements
Public Works Director Stadler updated the City Council on the successful neighborhood meeting that was
held on December 19, 2005 for the 2006 street and utility improvements. Several issues were discussed and there
were about 30 residents in attendance. In January and February the city will continue to move forward with the
project with the approval of the feasibility report and scheduling the public heazing ordering the street and utility
improvements.
Snow Emergencies
Public Works Director Steve Stadler updated the City Council on the process and policies related to the
w emergency that took place on December 14-15 for the large snowstorm that the city had. Council discussed
use of the snow emergency policy.
Metro Transit Bus Stop at Blake Road and Excelsior Boulevard
City Manager Getschow and Public Works Director Steve Stadler updated the Council on the Met
Transit's plans for the elimination of one of the bus stops near Blake and Excelsior. The elimination of the bus
stop is due not only to some evaluation by Met Transit as it relates to the number of stops that aze needed, but
also due to the recent accidents and one fatality that occurred near this intersection. Stadler also reiterated that the
new lighting that is part of the streetscape improvements mentioned eazlier on Excelsior Boulevard will also help
with visibility in this azea.
Letter Complimenting Volunteer for Providing Help to Early Childhood Special Education
Council member Thompson requested that a thank you letter be sent on behalf of the Mayor and the City
thanking Chris Endres for her hard work as it relates special education.
Shady Oak Road Project
City Manager Getschow provided the two incoming Council members with information from the Shady
Oak Road project that occurred in 2005; specifically the agenda packets and materials for the 2005 meetings with
Minnetonka and Hopkins was distributed to the incoming Council members. Cheryl Youakim requested
clazification on a few items that related to the project. City Manager Getschow stated that both Ciry Councils and
Hennepin County will be dealing with this issue in 2006.
• There being no further business, a motion was made by Council member Rowan, seconded by Brausen to
adjourn the meeting. The motion passed unanimously. The meeting was adjourned at 9:40 pm.
