MINUTES OF THE CITY COUNCIL WORK SESSION
AT CONCLUSION OF THE REGULAR CITY COUNCIL MEETING
Tuesday, July 17, 2007
Mayor Maxwell called the meeting to order at 8:50 pm. Present were Mayor Maxwell and Council
members Halverson, Thompson, Rowan and Y ouakim. City personnel present were City Manager Rick
Getschow, Public Works Director Steve Stadler.

. Council member Halvorson stated that some people are still parking diagonally on 10th Street where the
parking has been changed to parallel parking. Public Works Director Stadler stated he would check into
that and see if he can find a way for the area to be more clearly marked for parallel parking, not diagonal.
. Council member Rowan asked about the potential sale of the lots for 20th Avenue and the Surge property.
City Manager Getschow stated the HRA lots may need to be sold by a bidding process whereas the Surge
property could be sold by any method including potentially retaining a realtor. City Manager Getschow
will provide more information as the City prepares to sell these lots.
· Council member Y ouakim stated that she had had a discussion with Representative Simon and a resident
regarding the Jake Brake signs that had been requested on State Right-of-Way.
Mayor Maxwell asked that staff follow up on a letter received from a resident who lives near Central Park
as it relates to children continuing to play in the park after park hours.
. Council discussed that there had been some complaints received on the Saturday night of the Raspberry
Festival regarding the live music playing that evening.
City Council discussed the potential vacancy that may occur if Council member Thompson moves out of
town at the end of the month. City Manager Getschow stated that a letter of resignation from Thompson
would be appreciated once he knows ifin fact he will be leaving the city. The Council would then pass a
resolution at an August Council meeting declaring a vacancy on the City Council.
· City Manager Getschow stated that Fire Chief Specken has reviewed material from the Red Cross so he
will be most likely bringing a proclamation forward at a future Council meeting declaring Hopkins a "Get
Ready" city.
Mayor Maxwell stated that he finally has names for appointment to the Southwest LRT Citizen's
Advisory Committee (CAC). Those names will be forwarded to staff and to Hennepin County.
City Manager Getschow stated that the eargill/OPUS "topping off' ceremony is still scheduled for
Thursday, July 26th.
· City Manager Getschow stated that a Senior Hopkins Senior Summit is being planned for October 2,
2007. Annette Sandler ofNORC will be at a Council meeting in August to discuss that event as well as
to distribute the senior directory that has been compiled and published for the City of Hopkins' senior
population.
. City Manager Getschow stated that Decision Resources will be present at the first Council meeting in
August to provide a summary of the Citywide Survey to the Council. A final report on the Citywide
Survey should be received in the month of August.
There being no further business, a motion was made by Halvorson, seconded by Thompson to adjourn the
meeting. The motion passed unanimously. The meeting was adjourned at 9:28 pm.
