11-10-1964 The special meeting of the Zoning and Planning Commission of the City of Hopkins
was held in the Council Chambers of the City Hall on Tuesday, November lOth, 1964,
at 7:00 p.m, o'clock.
Present were Acting Chairman Larson, Councilman Pokorny, Jr, and Blake. City Mana�r,
Brubacher, City Engineer, Strojan, City Building Inspector Blomquist and the City
Planner, Hawks.
Case No. 1. 64-37-Special-Use-Permit.
Applicant: Hammerlund Sheet Metal Company.
Subject: A hearing published October 15th, 1964, and continued from the regular
Zoning and Planning Commission of October 27th, 1964, on a request for
a Special-Use-Permit for a proposed construction of an addition to an
existing building in a Commercial-1 District at 607 - 2nd Street South
or on Lots 22, 23, 24 and 25, Block 2, West Minneapolis continued until
such time as Mr. Hammerlund brings in plans that state the proposed use
of the building to be constructed; plans for truck loading docks; paYic-
ing and the date of removal of an older building known as the "gas
house" which exists in front of the proposed building site to the
Building Inspector and City Planner for their approval.
Action: Mr. Pokorny, Jr. moved and Mr. Blake seconded the motion that the
Reel - 17 - Zoning and Planning Commission recommend approval to the City
Side - 1 - Council of the request for the Special-Use-Permit to construct an
"' 635 - 744 addition to an existing building in a Commercial-1 District at 607 -
2nd Street South or on the above described Lots on the basis that the
proposed use of the new construction will be similiar in nature to
that of a garage and is acceptable in a Commercial-1 District; that
the permit be granted with the provision that a wall 100 feet long
with two 48" X 10� doors be constructed along the South side of the
alley, that the existing dwelling known as the "gas house" be demolished
within ninety (90) days after occupancy of the new addition; that the
site of the old dwelling be used for a loading dock and parking areas,
be approved. The motion carried.
Case No. 2. 64-41-Variance.
Applicant: R. H. Kakach.
Subject: A hearing published October 29th, 1964, on a request for a side yard
variance of less than the required eight (8) feet on Lot 1, Block 88,
West Minneapolis 2nd Division, and a request to construct a proposed
dwelling on Lot 2, Block 88, West Minneapolis 2nd Division or at 240 -
9th Avenue North as required by Ordinance �k131, Section 11, Sub-
division 17 (d).
Action: Mr. Blake moved and Mr. Pokorny, Jr. seconded the motion that the
� 744 - 951 Zoning and Planning Commission reco�nend to the City Council the
petition for a side yard variance of less than the required eight (8)
feet on Lot 1, Block 88, West Minneapolis 2nd Division, be denied;
however, a permit for a proposed dwelling to be constructed on Lot 2,
Block 88, West Minneapolis 2nd Division be approved provided a deed
restriction for the present and all future requests to include a side
yard of a minimum of eleven (11) feet on the North side and eight (8)
feet on the South side of Lot 2, Block 88, West Minneapolis 2nd
Division be filed and the issuing of a building permit be refused
if a variance be requested from the eleven (11) foot side yard on
the North side of said lot be approved. The motion carried.
Case No. 3. 64-29-Revision of Inter-City Street Plan.
Applicant: The Zoning and Planning Commission.
Subject: A revised plan for County Highway �k18 and Excelsior Avenue in front of
the existing Red Owl Company.
