CR 07-046 Resolution Approving Changes to Precinct Boundaries & Polling Places • April 11, 2007 Council Report 2007-046 RESOLUTION APPROVING CHANGES TO PRECINCT BOUNDARIES AND POLLING PLACES Proposed Action Staff recommends adoption of the following motion: Move to adopt Resolution 2007- 033, resolution approving changes to precinct boundaries and polling places. Overview Living waters was sold to the Hennepin County Railroad Authority. Hennepin County has in turn, leased the building to a basketball school. The building is no longer appropriate as a polling place. Mizpah United Church of Christ has agreed to be a polling place. In order to have the polling place located within the precinct, boundary lines need to be changed. Mizpah would be the polling place for precinct one and Zion would become the polling place for precinct two. Congressional District three was split into two precincts in 2005 to allow a polling place in St. Therese Southwest. St. Therese did not work out as a polling place and the polling place was moved to the Hopkins Fire Department. The Hopkins School District has closed Katherine Curren School, the current polling place for precinct six, and will be leasing it to another private school. Because the lease has not yet been finalized, it is not known if the school could be utilized as a polling place. The Hopkins Fire Department is currently being used as a polling place, so combining the two precincts at this time will assure that there is a polling place available in November.
