Stadler, Public Works Director Date: February 8, 2002 Subject: Public Works/Fire Station Site Planning Over the past two months there have been several meetings with the City Manager, Fire Chief, Public Works Director, City land-use planning consultant and Hopkins School District representatives regarding the subject site planning effort. The goal was to develop an acceptable concept plan for a new fire station on the city-owned property . that includes the PW site, Pavilion site and the parking lot area between Public Works and the Katherine Curren elementary school. The attached site master plan is the result of those meetings. Some of the objectives of a new master plan are as follows: - Increase Public Works outside storage area - Provide a 5-stall drive-through fire station with nearby first-responder parking - Separate the school's bus and parental drop-off areas - Maintain adequate open play area for the elementary school children - Improve the safety and function of the 1 ih Ave S/15t Street S intersection - Improve the Hopkins Pavilion parking situation and provide adequate parking for all other uses in the area (public works, fire station, school) The attached proposed master plan meets each of the above objectives. Staff is currently working on a preliminary cost estimate for this extensive site work.
