Future Improvements along 17th Avenue; StanleyEngineering Department CITY OF HOPKINS Memorandum To: Honorable Mayor and Council Members Mike Mornson, City Manager From: Nate Stanley, City Engineer Date: August 13, 2018 th Subject: Future Improvements along 17 Avenue _____________________________________________________________________ PURPOSE To provide an update to the City Council that staff has been evaluating future th improvements along 17 Avenue and will be holding a public meeting for area residents and businesses later this year to share the information. INFORMATION In 2017, city staff secured a grant to fund a feasibility study evaluating extension of th bicycle and pedestrian facilities along 17 Avenue between Excelsior Boulevard and TH 7, as this would create a connecting link with the Shady Oak Light Rail Station. A contract with Bolton and Menk to complete the study was executed and corridor residents and businesses were notified that the study was underway. In the notification that went out it was stated that a public meeting would be held at a later date. As work progressed it became clear that some of the options being evaluated would necessitate reconstruction of the entire corridor, so any bicycle or pedestrian improvements should be timed to coincide with reconstruction of the street. With this in mind staff began to evaluate the bigger future project and consider several other factors including:  Scope of improvements  Impacts  Schedule  Costs  Funding I anticipate holding an informational meeting later this year and would like to provide an update to Council prior to sharing any concepts with the public. FUTURE ACTION th No future action at this time, this is just informational, improvement of 17 Avenue is currently not in the CIP.
