CR2002-169 Wellness Committee bylaws
CITY OF
October 29, 2002 ~ Council Report 2002-169
HOPKINS
. Wellness Committee Bylaws
Amendment to the Membership Provision
Proposed Action
Staff recommends adoption of the following motion: Move to approve the amended wordinq in the
Wellness Committee Bylaws under 'Members' to allow better representation within the Public Works
Department.
Adoption of this motion will result in better representation from the Public Works Department, which now
includes the Activity Center, Pavilion, Arts Center, and Depot.
Overview
The current bylaws state that there shall be "two members from the Public Works Department, one member
from the Activity Center." The Activity Center is now a part of the Public Works Department; therefore, the
members of the Wellness Committee feel it would be more efficient to change the wording to "three members
from the Public Works Department" and eliminate the mention of the Activity Center. This will allow more
people to participate in serving on the Committee and will no longer require one of three people from the
Activity Center to always be a member of the Committee.
-primary Issues to Consider
. Will this change the number of members on the Wellness Committee?
No, there will still be a total of nine members on the Committee, three of them from the Public
Works Department.

RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE WELLNESS COMMITTEE
Proposed Action
Staff recommends adoption of the following motion: move to
adopt Resolution 91-94 supporting the Wellness Committee.
Adoption of this resolution will recognize the significant
impacts a properly run and supported Wellness Committee can
have on the health and vitality of the employee work force.
Overview
The city of Hopkins has had a Wellness Committee for the
past two years and, in fact, it has received a budget
allocation in each of those years. However, the City
Council has never formally adopted a resolution supporting
and encouraging the Wellness Committee activities.
staff is recommending the proposed resolution as a means of
formally recognizing and supporting the activities of the
. Wellness Committee.
Primary issues to consider
0 Why is the Council being asked to support this
resolution?
While the Wellness Committee has been in existence for the
past two years, it is now receiving more formal recognition
by the administration and hopefully, the City Council.
The Wellness Committee has designed and operated in a number
of Wellness activities for the employees and part of the
formalization process includes formal recognition by the
City council and hopefully, its support.
