06-26-1973 A regular meeting of the Hopkins Zoning and Planning Commission was held on
Tuesday, June 26, 1973, at 7:30 P.M. in the Council Chambers of the City Hall.
Present were Chairman Shirley, members Birkeland, Gaskell, Lohmann, Miller, and
Sidla. Also present were City Engineer Strojan, Zoning Administrator Kohnen and
City Planner Bergly.

Case No. 73-12 Hearing to consider vacating the north-south alley in Block 2, West
Minneapolis Third Division, alley between 18th and 19th Avenues North
from Third Street to Fourth Street.
P4r. Baer withdrew his petition to pave said alley.
Action: Mr. Lohmann moved and Mr. Miller seconded a motion to recommend to
the City Council approval of the vacating of said alley with the
provision that the City retain its utility easement in said alley.
Motion carried.
Case No. 73-13 Hearing to consider vacating Fifth Street South from the centerline
of 16th Avenue, west to the Hopkins Minnetonka border. Also the
north-south alley from Fifth Street to a point 150 feet south between
16th and 17th Avenues South and 17th Avenue South from Fifth Street
to a point 150 feet south.
Action: Mr. Lohmann moved and Mr. Birkeland seconded a motion to vacate
Fifth Street South from the west line of 16th Avenue South west to
`. the Hopkins/Minnetonka border and Seventeenth Avenue South from Fifth
Street to a point 150 feet south. Also the North-South alley from
Fifth Street South to a point 150 feet south between Sixteenth Avenue
and Seventeenth Avenue South subject to the filing of the final plat.
Motion carried.
Case No. 73-14 Review of proposed plat to be known as NAPCO INDUSTRIES FIRST ADDITION
Action: Mr. Miller moved and Mr. Gaskell seconded a motion to recommend approval
to the City Council if said plat is coordinated with our South Hopkins
development plans. Motion carried.
Item: Appearance by Dr. Malerich regarding the number on his home at Blake
Road South continued from May 29, 1973 meeting.
No satisfactory solution was submitted to the Commission to act on.
Item: Appearance by Park Edge Construction Company with plans for an addition
to the building located at 1005 Hill Street.
Action: Mr. Gaskell moved and Mr. Sidla seconded a motion to recommend approval
� to the City Council of the building plans for a warehouse addition
at 1005 Hill Street. Motion carried.
Item: Appearance by Mr. Schneider with plans for a building to be located
at 5th Street and 14th Avenue South.
Action: Mr. Sidla moved and Mr. Miller seconded a motion to recommend approval
to the City Council of the building plans for an office-warehouse at
Fifth Street and Fourteenth Avenue South. Motion carried.
Item: Proposed changes in the sign section of the ordinance continued from
May 29, 1973.
Action: Mr. Miller moved and Mr. Sidla seconded a motion to continue this
item to July 31, 1973. Motion carried.
Item: Appearance by Mr. Ginkel for a preliminary review of plans for an
apartment on the Annex site.
Action: Item continued to July 31, 1973 meeting. Density for apartments to
be reviewed at the meeting July 10, 1973.

Item: Minneapolis Floral Company land for proposed golf course continued
to July 31, 1973 meeting.
Zoning and Planning minutes of June 26, 1973 meeting continued.
Item: Plans for Highway 73 improvements reviewed.
�' Action: Zoning and Planning Commission reviewed plans for the proposed
improvement but made no recommendation until Minnetonka reviews
said plans.
Item: Mr. Baratz to present a review of a 56 unit apartment project.
Action: Mr. Lohmann moved and Mr. Gaskell seconded a motion to continue this
item to July 31, 1973 to give staff a change to review the building
plans . Motion carried.
Action: Mr. Lohmann moved and Mr. Gaskell seconded a motion a motion that
the meeting be adjourned.
