CR2002-141-Ice ResurfacerSeptember 26, 2002 Proposed Action Staff recommends adoption of the following motion: Award the bid for one (1) "Ice Resurfacer " to Becker Arena Products, for the Olympus Millennium Ice resurfacer at a net cost of $44,715 plus applicable tax. Overview Bid opening the Ice Resurfacer was held at Hopkins City Hall on September 25, 2002. Two Bids were received, One for a Zanboni Model 520 and the second for an Olympia Millennium Ice Resurfacer. The Hopkins Ice Pavilion currently uses an Olympia Ice Resurfacer that was purchased in 1990 when the Ice Pavilion was constructed. The existing machine has been a reliable piece of equipment for the past 12 years. However after 12 years of use we were looking at some major areas of maintence for this machine. Because it is a critical piece of equipment and even short duration of downtime can result in canceled ice time and reduced revenue staff has decided to replace rather than repair the machine at this time. Staff has reviewed the Bids and has decided to award the Bid to Becker based on complience to specifications, and lowest cost to the City. Primary Issue to Consider • Is the bid in the best interest of the city • How will the $44,715 be funded? Supporting Information Copypf Bids Norbert Kerber Supt., Buildings and Equipment ICE RESURFACER Council Report 2002 -141 Financial Impact: $47.621 Budgeted: Y/N YES Source: Pavilion Fund Related Documents (CIP, ERP, etc.): ERP Notes: Council Report 2002 -141 Page 2 Is the Bid in the hest interest of the City: Currently there are two major manufactures of Ice resurfacers in North America Zamboni USA and Resurfice Corporation that manufactures the Olympis resurfacer. Because each manufacturers design of its machine is different the city decided to write the specs to allow both manufactures to bid. However the bid machine had to meet all minimum specifications and the lowest bid the Olympia Millennium meet all specifications. Zamboni 520 Bid $58,021.50 -- $10,009.00 Trade in $48,021.50 Staff recommendation is for the purchase of the Olympia Millennium. How will the $47,621.48 funded. The amount $44,715 X 6.5 sales tax = $47,621.48 The funds will be paid out of the Pavilion Capital Outlay.
