Memo 2002 Hopkins Community Image Awards " ADMINISTRA TIVE SERVICES DEPARTMENT . MEMORANDUM To: Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Council FROM: Steve Stahmer, Assistant to the City Manager DATE: October 8, 2001 SUBJECT: 2002 Hopkins Community Image Awards It is time to present the awards for the 2002 Hopkins Community Image Awards. The awards are given annually to individuals and businesses who have made a visual improvement to their property or have demonstrated continued superior maintenance of their property, which in turn has a significant positive impact on the image of the City of Hopkins. This year, awards will be given in the categories of Single-Family Residential and Commercial/Industrial/Office. Nominations for this year's awards were accepted throughout the year and the five-member HerA Review Committee has reviewed those nominated properties. Seven properties and their owners were recommended to receive awards which will be presented at the October 15, 2002 Hopkins City Council Meeting. They are as follows: SINGLE-F AMIL Y RESIDENTIAL . Charles and Marie Delawis - 1309 Lake Street NE This home is very well maintained, with both new windows and new siding. The yard is decorated with attractive and meticulously cared for plants, flowers and other landscaping elements. In addition to the brick sidewalk, a white fence and archway create and inviting entrance to the property. Deb and Gregg Peterson - 20 18th A venue South The Petersons have added a new addition that nicely compliments the home's original architecture. A new front-porch deck has replaced the old cement steps. These improvements, along with a new driveway, help to make this well-maintained home an "asset to the community." Gordon and Dorothy Phelps - 309 7th Avenue North Like the Peterson's, the Phelps' have also added a very attractive front porch to their home. New siding has updated and greatly improved the horne's color scheme and overall appearance. The lawn and the fac;:ade are well cared for and create a pleasant view for passersby. Jorge and Mary Garcia - 640 6th Avenue South A new paint scheme and window-box flowers help to make the Garcia's home one of the most attractive houses on the block. A new tree was recently planted and other attractive landscape elements added. Small details such as a new porch light fixture, mailbox and house number have made very noticeable improvements to this home's appearance. Chad and Bridget Bahnemen - 301 14th Avenue North . The Bahnemen's added eye-catching, terraced retaining walls which wrap around this corner lot adjacent to the sidewalk. Attractive new trees bushes and flowers have also been added to this appealing property. . . COMMERCIAL/INDUSTRIAL/OFFICE Tim and Mike Tuttle - Tuttle's Bowling Bar and GriU, 107 Shady Oak Road This building has recently undergone extensive interior and exterior renovation. A new paint scheme has greatly improved the aesthetics ofthe building. The building improvements, along with new landscaping elements, have significantly enhanced its appeal as a family destination. Platinum Properties - Crossroads Center, Highway 7 and Hopkins Crossroad A major financial contribution was made toward the remodeling of this building. The result is a contemporary facelift which enhances the overall commercial area. Congratulations to this year's winners! Award recipients will receive a plaque and a $50 gift certificate for Justus Lumber. . .
