Resolution Recognizing Water Conference
Staff recommends adoption of the following motion: Approve Resolution 2005-922 welcoming the
Bridging the Water Gap International Water Conference to the City of Hopkins.
Terry Peterson, representing the "Bridging the Gap" water conference, made an appearance before
the City Council on March I. She talked about the upcoming conference to be held on April 15 -17
at the Eisenhower Community Center.
She asked that the City Council pass a resolution recognizing and welcoming the Water Conference.

RESOLUTION NO. 2005-022
WHEREAS, the United Nations has proclaimed the period from 2005 to 2015 the
International Decade for Action, "Water for Life", to commence on World
Water Day, 22 March 2005; and
WHEREAS, the United Nations has recognized that water is critical for sustainable
development, including environmental integrity and the eradication of
poverty and hunger, and is indispensable for human health and well-
being; and
WHEREAS, the City of Hopkins also recognizes the importance of fresh water and has
taken action to encourage its citizens to conserve water; and
WHEREAS, the City of Hopkins has taken steps to preserve the fresh water in streams
and lakes by reducing contaminants in runoff,
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Hopkins
hereby welcomes the Bridging the Water Gap International Water
Conference to the City of Hopkins; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Hopkins hereby
encourages its citizens to become informed about the importance of fresh
water and to be responsible users of this precious resource.
Adopted by the City Council of the City of Hopkins this 15th day of March 2005.
