IV.1. 2018 Hopkins Community Image Awards; ElverumMEMORANDUM TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council FROM: Kersten Elverum, Planning & Economic Development Director DATE: November 20, 2018 SUBJECT: 2018 Hopkins Community Image Awards ______________________________________________________________________________ Each year the City of Hopkins recognizes certain properties for their contribution toward the image of the community. Awards are grouped in three categories—Commercial/Industrial/ Office, Multi-Family Residential, and Single-Family Residential. Nominations are sought from the public through August. A review committee determines which nominated properties receive awards. Each property that receives at least four of the five review committee votes is awarded. There is no limit to the number of properties that can be awarded, but winners from the last 10 years are not considered. This year the review committee consisted of business representative Jill Miller of Projects in Person, residents Brian Hunke and Gayle Seaberg, and City staff members Jan Youngquist and Kristen Stacey. The following four properties were selected by the committee: •Single-Family Residential: Dick & Ann VanSickle 145 – 11th Avenue North •Commercial/Industrial/Office: Nacho’s Mexican Grill, Hance Hardware •Multi-Family Residential: 151 on 8 Attachment: PowerPoint presentation highlighting this year’s CIA winners Planning & Economic Development Hopkins Community Image Awards 2018 COMMERCIAL/INDUSTRIAL/OFFICE Nacho’s Mexican Grill 1016 Mainstreet “I love the updated storefront with the creative signage and standout yellow accent. I also enjoy the deck in the back!” “Nacho’s storefront is bright and fresh.” Judges’ comments Before After COMMERCIAL/INDUSTRIAL/OFFICE Hance Hardware 903 Hopkins Center “The mural on the side of the building is impressive. Thanks to Jimmy & Connie Longoria and all their help for making this possible.” “The mural will be a beautiful addition for years to come, great backdrop for social media outlets and other photo opportunities.” Judges’ comments RESIDENTIAL Dick & Ann VanSickle 145 –11th Avenue North “So pretty, clean and inviting!” “The time and money put into their house is truly shown through the before & after pictures…Love the new seating area incorporated in the front!” Judges’ comments Before After MULTI -FAMILY RESIDENTIAL 151 on 8 151 –8th Avenue South “Along with the addition of the Moline & The Artery, Stuart Co.’s improvement to their building was a major project.
