ZONING AND PLANNING COMMISSION MINUTES
May 29, 2007
A regular meeting of the Hopkins Zoning and Planning Commission was held on Tuesday,
May 29, 2007, at 6:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers of Hopkins City Hall.
Present were Commission Members Kathy Newcomb, Peter Sholtz, Kyle Skiermont,
Virgil Aarness, Linda Flynn, and Jannina Aristy. Bob Hatlestad was absent.
Also present was City Planner Nancy Anderson.
CALL TO ORDER
Mr. Sholtz called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Mr. Skiermont moved and Ms. Newcomb seconded the motion to approve the minutes
of the Apri124, 2007, regular meeting. The motion was approved unanimously.

CASE NO VN07-2 SIDEYARD SETBACK VARIANCE— 144 HOLLY ROAD
Ms. Anderson reviewed the proposed variance. John Kosmas, representing the applicant,
appeared before the Commission. Mr. Kosmas reviewed other homes in the area with
living space above the garage. Mr. Kosmas also stated that the new addition was 12 feet
from the property line and the 12-foot setback of the new addition was in keeping with the
intent of the ordinance. Jason and Sheila Anderson appeared before the Commission. Ms.
Anderson stated that they have a three-bedroom and need a fourth bedroom. The
Commission discussed in length the hardship issue.
Mr. Skiermont moved and Mr. Aarness seconded a motion to adopt Resolution RZ07-10,
recommending denial of a sideyard setback variance at 144 Holly Road. The motion was
approved unanimously.
ITEM: COMPREHENSIVE PLAN GOALS
The Cammission reviewed the goals for the new Comprehensive Plan. The City Council
and Commission will be reviewing the goals at their joint workshop on June 12.

motion was approved unanimously. The meeting was adjourned at 7:25 p.m.
