Update on the 21st Annual Empty Bowls Fundraiser; Tarrah PalmCity Manager CITY OF HOPKINS Memorandum To: Honorable Mayor and Council Members From: Mike Mornson, City Manager Date: February 19, 2019 st Subject: Update on the 21 Annual Empty Bowls Fundraiser _____________________________________________________________________ Mayor Cummings will read a Proclamation for the 2019 Empty Bowls Event. Tarrah Palm, Executive Director at ResourceWest will be in attendance to receive the st Proclamation and provide an update on the 21 Annual Empty Bowls Fundraiser for ICA Food Shelf and ResourceWest. The fundraiser will be held on Tuesday, March 12 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Hopkins Center for the Arts. Proclamation for the 2019 Empty Bowls Event WHEREAS, Hopkins local ICA food shelf distributed more than 1.39 million pounds of food in 2018; and ResourceWest assisted more than 10,000 people in 2018, and; WHEREAS, Empty Bowls is an international grassroots project to raise money for local food shelves, and in the 21 years of Empty Bowls events in our community, more than 1.1 million dollars has been raised for local food shelves, and; st WHEREAS, the 21 annual Empty Bowls event is Tuesday, March 12, at the Hopkins Center for the Arts with the goal of raising $80,000 for local food shelves ICA and ResourceWest. Participants may choose a handmade bowl, enjoy soup and bread donated by local businesses, make a donation, and then keep their bowl as a reminder of all the empty bowls in the community and the world. NOW THEREFORE, I, Molly Cummings, Mayor of the City of Hopkins in the State of Minnesota, do hereby proclaim March 12, 2019 to be Empty Bowls Day in the City of Hopkins and urges residents to participate in the Empty Bowls event by making a donation, making a bowl, or volunteering.
