AT CONCLUSION OF THE REGULAR CITY COUNCIL MEETING
TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 19, 2019
CALL TO ORDER
Pursuant to due call and notice thereof a work session of the Hopkins City Council was
held on Tuesday, February 19, 2019 at 8:24 p.m. at the Hopkins Fire Station, 101 17th
Avenue South, Hopkins.
Mayor Cummings called the meeting to order with Council Members Kuznia, Halverson,
Gadd and Hunke attending. Staff present included City Manager Mornson and Public
Works Director Stadler.
Public Works
Public Works Director Stadler gave an update on the recent snow events, snow removal
process and the tagging and towing operations during a snow emergency. Council
Member Kuznia commented on the good job Public Works staff does to remove the
amount of snow with the resources available. Mayor Cummings discussed the issue of
clearing sidewalks adequately for those with mobility issues. Mr. Stadler discussed the
enforcement policy. On behalf of the City Council, Mayor Cummings thanked the Public
Works staff for the winter clean-up efforts.
Mr. Stadler gave an update on the Pavilion arena floor replacement scheduled for May
—August 2019. The contractor is responsible for the expense of removing and replacing
the floor but the Pavilion would experience lost revenue during the construction
timeframe.
City Council
• Council Member Hunke discussed environmental concerns and ways to engage
students in government.
• Council Member Gadd would attend the League of Minnesota Cities (LMC)
Legislative Conference and Metro Cities meeting.
• Council Member Kuznia would attend the LMC Legislative Conference.
• Mayor Cummings discussed that Council attendance at events is a great opportunity
to engage with others.
• Mayor Cummings attended a meeting on unstable housing and homelessness.
• Mayor Cummings attended the Hopkins Business and Civic Association annual
meeting. There were many positive comments from community members about the
City.
• Mayor Cummings would attend the LMC Legislative Conference.
• Mayor Cummings would attend the Caring Youth Awards at the Minnetonka
Community Center.
• Mayor Cummings spoke to a kindergarten class and read to students.
• The Council thanked Debbie Vold for taking the meeting minutes.
Administration:
City Manager Mornson gave the following updates:
• The Watershed District would be meeting regarding the Cold Storage development
site.
• Rank Choice voting discussion is on the March 5 Work Session agenda.
• A hearing has been rescheduled to March 18.
ADJOURNMENT
There being no further business to come before the City Council and upon a motion by
Kuznia, seconded by Hunke, the meeting was unanimously adjourned at 9:04 p.m.
