Approve 10th Avenue North Bus Stop Location
Proposed Action.
Staff recommends adoption of the follovring motion: Move that Council approve
the proposed MetroTransit route 612 bus layover parking location on the west
side of 10th Avenue North lust south of 1st Street North.
Overview.
MetroTransit has received a federal grant that allows them to reinstate route 612.
Route 612 will provide service from Hopkins Mainstreet to County Road
101/Excelsior Blvd shopping areas and the Minnetonka Heights Apartments
area. The 612 bus will be a small 18-passenger bus providing 60 minute service
during off-peak periods Monday -Saturday. The route requires a 6-8 minute
recovery/layover location each hour in order to allow transfers to inbound or
outbound routes 12 and 615. The first bus layover each morning will be at 10:14
am +/-. There will be a 20 minute layover each day from 7:01 pm to 7:21 pm.
The proposed bus layover location is on the west side of 10th Avenue adjacent to
Richard's Liquor -see attached aerial photo. The route is expected to begin
operations in May 2008. Public Works will install a pole and bus stop sign. The
owner of Richard's Liquor store was contacted and he has no objection to the
bus stop location. Additionally, staff informed the HBCA and they had no
objection to the new bus route and bus parking layover location.
