AT CONCLUSION OF THE REGULAR CITY COUNCIL MEETING
Tuesday, September 17, 2019
CALL TO ORDER
Pursuant to due call and notice thereof a work session of the Hopkins City Council was
held on Tuesday, September 17, 2019 at 10:08 p.m. at the Hopkins Fire Station, 101
17th Avenue South, Hopkins.
Mayor Gadd called the meeting to order with Council Members Brausen, Kuznia,
Halverson and Hunke attending. Staff present included City Manager Mornson, Finance
Director Bishop, Director of Planning and Development Elverum, Assistant City
Manager Lenz, Public Works Director Stadler and City Clerk Domeier.
Planning and Economic Development
Director of Planning and Economic Development Elverum provided an update on
proposed development at Blake Road. She also shared land information for the Wm.
McCoy site.
Staff is meeting with Flannel Jax next week to further discuss liquor license options.
Assistant City Manager Lenz shared the standards for obtaining a liquor license.
Ms. Elverum shared that staff has received requests for electronic signs. City Council
preferred to explore the language for electronic signs later this fall versus waiting for the
zoning code update project.
Administration
Assistant City Manager stated residents have requested again to allow chickens. City
Council consensus to not allow chickens at this time.
City Manager Mornson will work with Finance Director Bishop on the budget issues and
budget message. He also requested that City Council review the 2020 meeting
schedule. City Council supported the proposed schedule with the additional change for
the March 17 meeting date to be moved to March 16.
City Council
• Council Member Halverson requested that the no left turn sign be returned to Blake
Road at the laundromat intersection. Staff will investigate the request. She also
provided information about an issue at Raspberry Ridge.
• Council Member Kuznia will be attending the Community Works meeting. He
commended staff for their efforts in obtaining the Municipal I&I Grant.
ADJOURNMENT
There being no further business to come before the City Council and upon a motion by
Brausen, seconded by Kuznia, the meeting was unanimously adjourned at 10:40 p.m.
