III.1. 2019 Hopkins Community Image Awards; Elverum MEMORANDUM TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council FROM: Kersten Elverum, Planning & Economic Development Director DATE: November 19, 2019 SUBJECT: 2019 Hopkins Community Image Awards ______________________________________________________________________________ Each year the City of Hopkins recognizes certain properties for their contribution toward the positive image of the community. Awards are grouped in three categories— Commercial/Industrial/ Office, Multi-Family Residential, and Single-Family Residential. Nominations are sought from the public through August and a review committee determines which nominated properties receive awards. Each property that receives at least four of the five review committee votes receives an award. There is no limit to the number of properties that can be awarded, but winners from the last 10 years are not considered. This year the review committee consisted of business representative Jill Miller of Projects in Person, residents Alan Schutte and Elaine Goepfert, and City staff members Jan Youngquist and Maria Jimenez. The following four properties were selected by the committee: • Commercial/Industrial/Office: o Hopkins Professional Building – 290 9th Avenue North o Hopkins Carpet One & Hopkins Center Drug – 907 & 913 Hopkins Center • Single-Family Residential: o Michael & Kimberly Falk – 245 9th Avenue North • Multi-Family Residential: o No nominations received Attachment: PowerPoint presentation highlighting this year’s CIA winners Planning & Economic Development Hopkins Community Image Awards 2019 COMMERCIAL/INDUSTRIAL/OFFICE Hopkins Professional Building 29 –9th Avenue North Judge’s comments: “I really like how the Hopkins Professional Building was influenced by the more modern architectural look of their neighbors to not just make their own building look cooler but make the whole block look better as well.” AFTER BEFORE COMMERCIAL/INDUSTRIAL/OFFICE Hopkins Carpet One/Hopkins Center Drug 907 -913 Hopkins Center Judge’s comments: “Very modern, classy look and feel.
