III.1. Body Worn Cameras; Johnson
Memorandum

Re: Body Worn Cameras
The Hopkins Police Department will be implementing body worn cameras in the first quarter of 2020.
According to Minnesota State law, all “local law enforcement must provide for public comment before
it purchases or implements a portable recording system. At a minimum, the agency must accept
public comments submitted electronically or by mail, and the governing body with jurisdiction over the
budget of the law enforcement agency must provide for public comment at a regularly scheduled
meeting.”
The written draft policies are available for public comment and have been posted on the City website.
This has also been publicized in Hopkins Connections to our residents.
The body worn camera policy will be also available for comment at the City Council meeting on
Tuesday, January 21, at 7 p.m., at Hopkins City Hall.
We appreciate the publics comments regarding these draft policies.
