Proclamation - Arbor Day

7fJ1teua4, in 1872, J. Sterling Morton proposed to the Nebraska Board of Agriculture
that a special day be set aside for the planting of trees; and
7fJ1teua4, this holiday, called Arbor Day, was first observed with the planting of more
than a million trees in Nebraska; and
7fJ1teua4, Arbor Day is now observed throughout the nation and the world; and
7fJ1teua4, the quality of life and the beauty of Hopkins, is enhanced by the presence
of trees; and
7fJ1teua4, trees contribute to the environmental and psychological well-being of
Hopkins and enrich our lives in so many ways; and
7fJ1teua4, The City of Hopkins has been named "Tree City USA" for 29 consecutive
years.
~, ~, in recognition of these fine qualities, be it resolved that I, Eugene
J. Maxwell, Mayor of the City of Hopkins, Minnesota, do hereby proclaim May 16, 2008
to be

in Hopkins, and the month of Mayas Arbor Month; and to urge citizens to become
more aware of the importance of trees to the well being of our City and to participate in
the tree planting programs which will ensure a green Hopkins in the decades to come.
