PARK BOARD MEETING MINUTES
December 21, 2020
A regular meeting of the Hopkins Park Board was held on December 21, 2020
I. CALL TO ORDER
Kyle Kaczmarek, Chairperson called the meeting to order at 6:34 pm.
II. ROLL CALL
Present were Park Board members Kyle Kaczmarek, Emma Figgins, Kim Schlauderaff and Meg Slindee. Anna
Pohmer was absent. Members attended virtually via Zoom video conference. Also present via Zoom video
conference was Kelly O'Dea and Ann Davy, City of Minnetonka Recreation Services Director and Recreation
Services Superintendent, respectively and Steve Stadler, City of Hopkins PW Director/Park Board City staff
liaison.
III. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Minutes for the October 26, 2020 Park Board Meeting:
Kyle Kaczmarek made a motion to approve the minutes, seconded by Emma Figgins. The motion passed with
a 4-0 vote.
IV. BUSINESS
A. Shady Oak Beach 2020 report and _proposed 2021 fees
Kelly O'Dea and Ann Davy reported to the Board on the 2020 season, including the initial COVID pandemic
shutdown, the limited reopening actions and the temporary shutdown in August due to high E.Coli bacteria
counts. Kelly also mentioned that new Wibit floatation play equipment has been purchased and that the
lifeguard shack will be renovated in the spring, 2021. Kelly then presented the proposed fee structure for the
2021 season. The change is to a single price for resident and non-resident season passes - $13/pass for residents
and $26/pass for non-residents. There will no longer be reduced pricing for purchasing three or more passes.
The one -day admission fee will remain at $6/person and $3/person after 6 pm. Kelly & Ann mentioned that
there are fewer 3+ pass purchases each year and that about $S% of the passes sold are resident passes.
After brief discussion Kyle Kaczmarek made a motion to approve the 2021 season pass fees, as presented,
seconded by Emma Figgins. The motion passed with a 4-0 vote.
B. Promoting Hopkins' Parks -- 2021 Parks/Trails Passport Program
Emma Figgins described the draft pdf document she'd prepared as the initial park system outreach tool which
is focused on Hilltop Park. There was much discussion about how to best complete the document in order to
generate interest in the City's parks and Hilltop Park specifically. It was agreed that members would continue
to send in ideas and the goal would be to approve the final document at the January meeting.
B. Other Topics of Interest

Steve Stadler reported that work had begun making ice rinks in the parks but it's been challenging thus far due
to the above average temperatures. The goal is to have skate -able rinks as soon as possible, likely around
New Year's Day.

VI. ADJOURNMENT
Kyle Kaczmarek moved to adjourn the meeting, seconded by Meg Slindee. The motion passed 4-0. The
meeting adjourned at 7:17 p.m.
