Memo - Shady Oak Road Project
. Public Warks Department
Memorandum
To: Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Council
Copy: Jim Genellie, Acting City Manager ~
From: Steven J. Stadler, Public Works Director
Date: August27,2004
Subject: Shady Oak Road project
The Shady Oak Road reconstruction project will require several important decisions by
City Council. These will include: roadway design elements, road alignment,
redevelopment areas and access issues. The first major element to consider is the
roadway design as this translates to right-of-way width and resulting property impacts,
. This Council work session item is limited to a presentation and discussion on the
potential roadway design options and resulting right-of-way widths, Staff and
consultants are currently putting together the feasible options for road alignment and
the resulting property impacts and potential redevelopment considerations. These
issues will be presented for discussion at a work session in October.
At this work session, the County consulting engineer will present the results of their
study of future traffic flow for 3-lane and 4-lane road options. There will be a report and
diagrams showing the differences in the proposed road designs. Unfortunately, this
information is not available to staff as of this date.
The goal of the work session is for City Council to understand the traffic flow
implications of the 3-lane and 4-lane options and to reach preliminary agreement on a
preferred design.
