Liaison Officer Services Agreement with Minnetonka PO
Proposed Action
Staff recommends adoption of the following motion: Move to approve an aqreement
between Minnetonka, Golden Valley and Independent School District #270 for Police
Liaison Services
Overview
The Minnetonka Police Department has supplied police liaison officers to both junior
high school and the senior high school in Independent School District#270 for over 10
years. In past years the Hopkins Police Department paid 14% of the cost of providing
those services to the Minnetonka PD. For FY2004 both Hopkins and Golden Valley
have notified Minnetonka that they would be unable to make budget payments for this
service. School Liaison Officers improve understanding between police, staff and
students and provide an important resource for police activity. The Hopkins Police
Department has received permission to sign over $5,313.00 of state grant funding that
would revert to the state general fund in 2004. The Hopkins Police Department does
not operate a juvenile diversion program that qualifies for this funding under 2004
guidelines. The State of Minnesota has agreed to allow diversion of the funds to pay
. for Liaison Officer expenses, which qualify under the guidelines.
Primary Issues to Consider
. How will the $5,313.00 be funded?
