The Mayor recommends that the Council approve the following motion: Move that the Hopkins
City" Council appoint James A. Genellie as Acting, CitvManager ,with an increase in salary
beginning June 16.2004 and ending when anew City Manager t8kesoffice.
Approval of this, motion will officially appoint the Assistant City Manager as Acting City l\1:~nager.
This action will also authorize a temporary increase in salary for the Acting City Manager.

needs to be appointed. Mr. Genellie is the Assistant City ,Manager> He, has served as Acting City
,Manager before from October 1989 to February of 1990. ' '
The City's personnel policy and past practice provide'for"a temporary increase in salary for
. individuals who are temporarily working in a higher classificati()n. The proposed salary increase is

Legislative Policy 2-G authorizes the Assistant City. Manager to perform the duties of City
Manager whenever the Manager is absent
Personnel Policy, Section 9.02 TEMPORARYFILL..,IN AT A HIGHER CLASSIFICATION
From time to time employees may be asked to fill in temporarily ,at work in a higher
classification. SU,ch assignment shall be made by the Department Head, with the approval of
the City Manager. If such temporary assignment extendsheyond thirty (30) working days,
additional compensation at the higher classification will be provided. The 4uration of a
temporary assignment shall not exceed six' (6) months, unless authorized by the City
Manager or City Council.
