APPROVEINCREASEIN NON-UNION WAGES
Proposed Action'
Staffrecommends thattheCouncil approve' the following motion: Move approval of a 1.5% increase in
the currentnon-union wage schedule retrmlctiveto January 1.,2004. a L5%increase effective June 27,
2004 and a 2% increase effective January 1. 2005. .,..
Overview
. The proposed salary adjustment calls fora 1.5% wage increase effective January 1, 2004 and a 1.5%
wage increase effective June 27, 2004. It also calls fora2% increase effective January 1, 2005. There is
no increase proposed for insurance benefits in either 2004 or 2005. I am also proposing that eight hours, '
,be added to the vacation and flex leave schedules to match the increase given to Local 49 .' '
Primary Issues to Consider
. How does this agreement fit in with t~e 2004/05 budget?
. The City budgeted 2.5% for wage and .benefit increases in 2004. Thec.totalcost of the proposed
, settlement is within the budget. ' ' , '
,
The City Council has not approved'a budget for. 2005. The 2% increase in,wages, however, is ,
less thaIl what the finance department has been using fo~ phmningpurposes. "
. Howdoes this agreement compare to other contract settlements for 2004/05 in terms of wage and
benetitincreases? '
2004 settlements for other citiesha.ve generally been in the range of 3%. There are not enough
2005 settlements to determine a trend:'
