' Proposed Action. Staff recommends adoption of the following motion: Move that Council adopt Resolution 2003-087. resolution to award steel fabrication and supplv contract. Police Station renovation proiect. to Thurnbeck Steel Fabrication. Inc. Overview. In July/August 2003 the city publicly advertised for bids on the police station renovation project. On August 12, 2003 City Council awarded contracts for the police station renovation project. However, no bids were received for bid division 3, structural steel metal fabrication supply. This public bidding process met the requirements of State law for public construction. The city's construction manager then solicited bids for the work directly from several contractors - these bids were opened on Friday, September 19. There were three bids submitted and the low bid of $72,223.00 was received from Thurnbeck Steel Fabrication, Inc. The project budget for this work was $75,000.00. Three bids were received on this package and were competitive. Thurnbeck Steel Fabrication, Inc. was the low bidder at $72,223. CITY FACILITY IMPROVEMENT PROJECT POLICE STATION RENOVATION, BID PACKAGE NO.4, DIVISION 3 PROJECT NO. 02-40 Whereas, the City has complied with State law for public construction by publicly advertising for bids on all the bid divisions for the Police Station Renovation project, and Whereas, there were no bids received for bid division 3, structural steel fabrication supply, and Whereas, three bids were then directly solicited, received and publicly opened on September 19,2003 with the low bidder being Thurnbeck Steel Fabrication, Inc. with a bid of $72,223.00, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF HOPKINS, MINNESOTA, that the contract for City Project 02-40, Bid Package No.4, Division 3 is awarded to Thurnbeck Steel Fabrication, Inc. in the amount of $72,223.00 and the Mayor and City Manager are hereby authorized and directed to enter into a contract with Thurnbeck Steel Fabrication, Inc. for and on behalf of the City.
