We currently have mobile data terminals (MDT) in our squad cars, which are completely dependent on Hennepin County's CAD (Computer Aided Dispatching) system for our link to the Criminal Justice Information System. Changes over the next two years in the county-operated radio system will result in the loss of the current MOTs. It will then become our responsibility to replace these units. Vehicles equipped with mobile data computers increase the productivity of working traffic enforcement, aids in officer safety, and helps to identify repeat offenders. .e wish to purchase four mobile data computers. We are applying for grant money to cover the cost of three of these units. The Department of Public Safety has requested the proposal to include a local match, therefore, we have committed to purchasing one of the four computers with city monies. Primary Issues to Consider Terms and conditions of grant - projects cannot begin before April 1, 2001 and must end on September 30, 2001. Final report must be submitted by November 15, 2001. Funds will be made in the form of reimbursement for purchases. The total cost of this project is $31,204.50. The grant request amount is $23,403.37 and the local share is $7,801.13.
