C\TY OF m April 12, 2001 HOPKINS Council Report 2001-049 Approve Xcel Energy Street Lighting Contract - 8th Avenue South Proposed Action. Staff recommends adoption of the following motion: Move that Council authorize the Mayor and City Manaaer to enter into a contract withXcel Eneray (Northern States Power) for installation of 23 street lights alona 8th Avenue South from Mainstreet to Excelsior Boulevard. Overview. This contract would require NSP, now Xcel Energy, to install and maintain street lighting similar to those installed along Mainstreet. The proposed $92,385 contract covers purchase and installation costs only. Energy and maintenance fees would be $6.45/1ighUmonth. The energy portion of the fees is $2.80/lighUmonth. This is the same rate as those installed along the Excelsior Blvd, Phase I segment. If approved, the new lighting would be installed by an Xcel Energy contractor during road reconstruction in 2001. Council Report 2001-049 Page 2 Analvsis of Issues Project cost and funding The proposed cost is $92,385 for 23 street lights, or $4,016/light. The work will be funded from the city's PIR account. The annual cost of energy and maintenance for this section of street lighting will be $2, 139.00/year. The estimated current energy cost for the existing lighting is $540/year.
