MINUTES OF THE CITY COUNCIL WORK SF,SSION
AT CONCLUSION OF 'THE REGULAR CITY COUNCIL MEETING
Monday, August 4, 2008
Mayor Maxwell called the meeting to order at 8:50 pm. Present were Mayor Maxwell and Council
members Halverson, Brausen, Rowan, Youakim and City Manager Riclc Getschow, Director of Public
Works Steve Stadler and Director of Economic Development, Kersten Elverum
Jails -Olson
City Council discussed Jails-Olson and the discussion they are having with the Jails building site
regarding a potential expansion in Hopkins. The main issue is the expansion that would occur in
Hopkins would be parking lot construction, whereas the building expansion for the company would be in
St. Louis Parlc. The City is exploring ways in which the expansion can occur but the City could still
realize the benefits of redevelopment. Jails-Olson may be coming before the Planning Commission and
the City Council in the coming months.

Mayor Maxwell asked Steve Stadler about the well work that was being done.
Steve Stadler gave an update on the Minnetonka Mills Street reconstruction project.
• The Mayor asked Stadler about the progress he has made with the, discussion regarding ballfield
improvements. Stadler said that he is talking to the local baseball groups and will get back to the
Council.
Council member Youakim asked about the Drillane monument that had been removed and verified that
the monument is completely on private property.
• Council member Brausen suggested that we get information in Highlights and the Connection and the
newspaper about the new carbon monoxide detector rules pursuant to recent Legislation that is now in
effect.
City Manager Getschow stated the city picnic is going to be on Thursday, August 14t~'.
• City Manager Getschow stated as a follow-up to Mr. Brausen's questions, the EBCO property will be
removing the fuel tank and some of the landscaping/construction equipment that has been stored there.
City Manager Getschow provided the Council information about the National Night Out parties that will
be occurring the following evening.
City Manager Getschow stated that the city goals will be considered at the first meeting in September
when all Council members are present. He will be giving a presentation to the Hopkins Civic Business
and Civic Association in the middle of August before those goals are approved.

• Getschow stated that the Council will be meeting at the Hopkins Arches to begin their work session the
following Tuesday.
City Manager Getschow stated that the Fire Chief had told him that the City will indeed be able to hold
two CERT classes between now and early 2009 when the grant period ends. Council expressed interest
in being part of some of those classes.
With no further business, a motion was made by Brausen, seconded by Halverson to adjourn the meeting. The
motion passed unanimously. The meeting was adjourned at 10:10 pm.
