Presentation of Essay Contest Winners
The Human Rights Commission sponsored an essay contest for the Sixth, Seventh, and Eighth grade
students. The essay topic was: What problems in your school have to do with intergroup conflict or
prejudice? What solutions do you recommend and what actions can you take to solve these
problems?
The Commission received 15 essays. The winners were chosen at the March 20 Commission
meeting.
First Place:' Ingrid Leach
Second Place: Christy Grider
Third Place: Anna Barberio
The winners, and their families, have been invited to the April 4 Council meeting where they will be
presented with certificates and savings bonds.
The first place essay was also entered in the statewide League of Minnesota Human Rights
Commissions essay contest.
The mission of the Hopkins Human Rights Commission is to foster a community that embraces
diversity, mutual respect, and principles of equal opportunity. The Commission will take a forthright
stance against discrimination and prejudice of all kinds to ensure fair treatment of all citizens of
Hopkins.
